Summer In Place
With the world expected to remain socially distanced for a little while longer, we look forward to the warm welcome of a quiet summer filled with small gatherings and nights by the fire. Although we may miss attending larger events this season, we have the opportunity to redefine our outdoor living spaces and how we use them.
Longer days allow more time to spend outdoors and appreciate the natural beauty that surrounds us. As we reminisce on some of our best summer moments, we especially appreciate those spent on the porch for a breezy afternoon or a late summer's night.
In this coastal New England property, the goal was to transform the original pared-down screened porch into a summer oasis, serving as an extension of the layered interiors.
We paired an inviting outdoor sofa and swivel loungers with vintage wicker chairs and an organic wood coffee table to create a sculptural, yet cozy seating group. We then layered in a pendant light for warm glow and succulents to pull the outdoors in.
An outdoor-quality rug was the perfect way to unite the room and add softness. We love the carefully considered layers and mixture of materials making this space a family favorite.
Creating a rustic exterior dining enclosure (below) was the next opportunity on this property. This al fresco refuge has comfort, interest and incorporates nature's elements, opening onto a beautiful courtyard with native plantings. It provides shelter from the sun and wind while blending in with the natural surroundings for a unique dining experience.
